Julian King: Philly's Own Queer Powerhouse Ready to Slay the Roots Picnic 2024

Updated: Mar 27

Listen up, y'all, 'cause I'm about to lay down the real deal about one of Philly's finest, Julian King. This cat is not just some run-of-the-mill singer trying to make waves – nah, he's a full-blown tsunami about to crash over the music scene, queer, proud, and loud as the Liberty Bell when it got its iconic crack.

Philly Roots Run Deep

Born into a military family, Julian didn't exactly have the luxury of planting roots in one place. But it was Philly – the City of Brotherly Love (and Sisterly Affection) – that claimed him. You know this city doesn't play when it comes to breeding musical geniuses. We're talking about the same grounds that gave us legends like Quest Love, Jazmine Sullivan, Boyz II Men, and Icon City's very own Anye Elite.

Julian walked those same hallways at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), learning to hone that raw talent into something fierce. Unlike other folks who might rest on the laurels of just being part of such an alumni, King pushed further, bagging a degree in Vocal Performance from the University of the Arts.

Black, Gay, and Proud

In a world that too often tries to shove us into boxes, Julian stands unapologetically at the intersection of Black excellence and queer fabulosity. Much like Anye Elite, another CAPA alum and musical activist who’s been repping for the Black Gay community for over a decade; King is carving out his space in the industry, proving that talent knows no boundaries of identity.

Growing up with the church as his backdrop, Julian didn't just learn to sing; he learned to feel music, to infuse every note with soul, whether he’s belting out a ballad or rocking out on the piano and bass guitar. And did I mention this dude can dance? Watching him move on stage is like witnessing poetry in motion – every step, every turn, speaks volumes.

Hitting the Ground Running

Since stepping into the limelight, Julian hasn’t taken his foot off the gas. Rubbing elbows with the big dogs in Grammy U and the Recording Academy's Philadelphia Chapter, he's been soaking up industry game like a sponge. Managed by Twenty 20 Entertainment and Mama’s Boys Entertainment Group, King ain't just aiming to be another singer on your playlist; he's gunning for that “world-class entertainer” title.

And for those of y’all sleeping on him, it’s time to wake up because Julian King is about to bring the heat to the Roots Picnic 2024.

This event is known for showcasing the créme de la créme of talent, and with King on the lineup, you know it's gonna be lit AF.

In Conclusion…

Julian King represents the heart and soul of Philly – resilient, vibrant, and unapologetically himself. Black, gay, and blessed with a voice that can melt even the coldest hearts, he’s not just an artist to watch; he's a movement.

Roots Picnic 2024 ain’t ready for the hurricane that is Julian King. But ready or not, here he comes, and trust me, you don’t want to miss this.
